Fremantle Dockers defender Michael Johnson is under investigation for an alleged assault of a man in Leederville, WA on Sunday morning.
The man reported the assault to his local police station on Monday with video evidence, which was aired on the Seven Network in Perth.
Both the club and the police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
Fremantle chief executive, Steve Rosich said the 32-year-old is “cooperating fully with inquiries” into the incident.
“We are treating the matter seriously and we are very disappointed that Michael placed himself in such a situation last weekend,” said Rosich.
“In this instance, the position Michael placed himself in, including his alleged behaviour, was not acceptable. As a club, we support the person and challenge the behaviour.
“Given that the matter is still being investigated by police, the club is not in a position to comment further or discuss any possible sanction until the investigative and legal process is completed.”
Johnson was on leave during the incident.
The athlete had missed most Dockers games this year due to a hamstring injury.
