Cricketer Mitchell Starc has received 30 stitches on his left leg after fielding accident at a Sydney training on Thursday, September 15.
“Mitchell was taken to St George hospital in an ambulance… suffering a deep laceration to his left shin after colliding with some training equipment,” Cricket Australia chief medical officer, John Orchard said.
“Fortunately there were no bone fractures or tendon damage to his leg and he underwent surgery this afternoon to clean the wound and received approximately 30 stitches.”
Teammate Steve Smith said the injury “was probably one of the most gruesome things I’ve ever seen”, but remains confident that Starc will recover in time for this summer’s Test series against South Africa in Perth on November 3.
“It wasn’t great but I’m sure in a couple of weeks he’ll be OK and back into things,” said Smith. “We’re confident he’ll be OK for the first Test.”
