Hours after being appointed the new captain of the Australian rugby league team, Greg Inglis has allegedly been caught drunk driving and speeding in Lithgow.
Inglis, who was set to succeed skipper Cameron Smith, was reportedly arrested and taken to Lithgow Police Station on Monday, where he received a reading of 0.085 in a breath analysis.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs player had his licence suspended and is due to appear in Lithgow Local Court on November 2.
Earlier this morning, Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga announced that Inglis will lead the team in Tests against New Zealand and Tonga this month.
Australian Test selector Laurie Daley said Inglis should relinquish his captaincy. “Greg’s been a terrific leader for South Sydney and Queensland, but I don’t think you can have the Australian captain going DUI,” Daley said on the Big Sports Breakfast.
