The Matildas have risen from the ashes with a 5-0 win over Chile in Newcastle.
After a goalless first half, the Australia’s women turned the game around in the second half with a hattrick from Caitlin Foord and a score each from Sam Kerr and Emily Gielnik.
The win represents another chance for the world’s number 6 team after the unexpected loss against Chile at Penrith on Saturday, which may see the Matildas lose some FIFA ranking points.
After the loss, coach Alen Stajcic made three personnel changes: goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold replaced Lydia Williams, while defender Alanna Kennedy replaced Laura Alleway and Gema Simon was stationed in the left back to allow Elise Kellond-Knight to play in the midfield position and Chloe Logarzo in a more forward role.
