Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova has defeated Daria Gavrilova 6-2, 6-1 in the Kremlin Cup finals, denying the Australian her first WTA tournament win.
The win qualifies Kuznetsova to go through to the WTA finals in Singapore, where she will face world’s number three, Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska.
With this win, the 31-year-old now collects 17 WTA titles.
Despite the loss, Gavrilova has risen from world’s number 37 to number 24, and could rise to the top spot among Australian female tennis players.
Gavrilova is currently Australia’s number two, only behind Samantha Stosur who dropped to world’s number 20 yesterday.
